The Real Hoopties of New Jersey

New Jersey Motorsports Park: Millville, NJ

We Laughed, we cried, we hurled. The car is bent and broken, but the soul is willing. Is this the end, we will see, but for such a troubled race we really really really kicked butt!

"The Chubba Cheddar Enduro"

Why are we always racing when there's ice on the ground!!??

Lbs of delicious barbeque cooked with gasoline:

9 Lbs of ribs, 4 Lbs of chicken quarters

After the mother of all ill-advised minivan hauls across the country, we proved we mean business on the track by having an electrical problem, stuffing the car into the wall, and still finishing well. In addition, we raised some Benjamins for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer by doing what we do best: slow cooking BBQ and occasionally letting other people eat it. Our best race ever, and it's only getting better.

"The Cure for Gingervitis"

Is it ironic that it snowed for our warmup race for Summit Point? With our dream team re-assembled from Road America, The Carbeque kicked pork-butt up until we sheared an axle and the captain had to drive back to Chicago to get a spare. Day 2 went flawlessly and, after the checkered flag, everyone was over accepting their pointless prizes and trophies at the winner circle while we partied with our neighbors by having an old-fashioned rib-off (with their big green egg and our fresh off the manifold carbequed ribs).

"The Chubba Cheddar Enduro"

August 20-21, 2012 at Road America, Elkhart Lake WI

Class B Finish:

4/13

Overall Finish:

17/51

Laps Completed:

210

Fastest Lap:

3:21.235

Lbs of delicious barbeque cooked with gasoline:

12 Lbs of ribs

There's not much to say here, except that this was our best finish yet. It was the first race where the rib cooker was fully up to temperature and consistently pumping out rack after magnificent rack of ribs. And we beat 6-time Le Mans Winner Emanuele Pirro who was driving a PORSCHE. History was made. On top of that, we were paddocked with LeMons legend Spank, who was driving stints for Soggy's Simca 1204, and it piggybacked an ALMS weekend giving us tons of exposure.

"Showroom-Schlock Shootout"

October 8-9, 2011 at Autobahn Country Club, Joliet IL

Class B Finish:

17/23

Overall Finish:

81/98

Laps Completed:

89

Fastest Lap:

1:58.318

Lbs of delicious barbeque cooked with gasoline:

6 Lbs halfway cooked = 3 Lbs?

Let's just say, we learned how masochistic LeMons can be for our second race. Team Carbeque left Autobahn Country Club with a busted up car, blown transmission, and a might as well be last place "finish"... but the V2 BBQ box showed promise by getting hot enough to cook. That's something.

"American Irony"

July 16-17, 2011 at Gingerman Raceway, South Haven, MI

The Carbeque's debut was a success! With ambient outside temperatures reaching nearly 1000F, the SAAB proved that it can be a solid runner by not exploding into flames (although we very nearly exploded into flames on lap 0 behind the pace car). The initial untested V1 BBQ box did not work, since the car ran cooler than we expected it to at race pace, but we got all 5 drivers to put in stints, and even though an electrical problem punted us out of contention before the end of day 1, we still got Soggy out to take the checkered flag on Sunday in our very first LeMons race! To put a cherry on top, The Truth About Cars posted a picture with us looking hardcore on their front page. Every legacy has a beginning!
